Recently I got my newsletter from Chris Brogan at Human Business Works, just one of his many accomplishments as I am sure you are aware. In the newsletter Chris said they don’t do New Year Resolutions, they instead choose 3 words to focus on in the New Year. My first thought was, “Great!” How many of us start out the New Year with resolutions we break within the first month… well maybe days in some cases.
I was up to the challenge as I often choose focal points for myself as I grow my business, and the direction I am taking List 2 Close Assistant this year is a great one. It’s one that I don’t want to lose sight of. To that end, here is my response to Chris!
EXCEED… I do this by exceeding my clients expectations and my own. I do this by exceeding what I have done previously and aim to continue in this vein.
GROW…. since I opened my virtual doors in May I have grown my business by continually learning new things, meeting new people, and taking on new clients, and helping my clients to grow their businesses as well.
GRATITUDE… I approach life with an attitude of gratitude. I work with people that have that same approach to life. I can never repay what has been shared with me, but always strive to share my knowledge and give help where needed. I believe strongly in giving of yourself when you can.
(And yes, I spelled EGG on purpose. Isn’t the question of the chicken and the egg one of the oldest jokes in the book? But of course, that egg evolves and grows into a chicken. I thought it was rather fitting)
I was pleasantly surprised to receive a response from the great Chris Brogan telling me that he “loved it” and that there are “lots of people that want to focus on it” (gratitude). I’m sure that to many focusing on gratitude is a strange focal point for a business model, but let me ask you a pertinent question: Where would you be and how far could you take your business in the coming year if you didn’t have many people willing to share their knowledge?
In many cases this information is free for you via the internet and the free reports many of us offer. In others, you have to buy the book or CD. Regardless of how you gain your knowledge, gratitude for it is not asked or expected. In my case, I give it freely.
I have that approach because I am continually growing, exceeding, and learning. I don’t intend that it will ever stop. I set high expectations for myself. Perhaps that’s why my mother has nicknamed me Wonder Woman! But I digress…. What I really want to know is what three words you would choose if you were to choose three words to focus your business on in 2011.
